About The Republic of Zimbabwe
The Republic of Zimbabwe is a founder Member State of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), having been one of the nine countries that formed the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) in Lusaka, Zambia, in April 1980. SADCC transformed into SADC in 1992 with the signing of the SADC Treaty in Windhoek, Namibia. Zimbabwe lies Southern Africa, between the Limpopo and Zambezi rivers. The land-locked country is bounded by Mozambique to the east, Zambia to the north, South Africa to the south, and to the west by Botswana. The official and business language is English, with Shona and Ndebele also widely spoken. Formerly Southern Rhodesia, Zimbabwe attained independence from Britain in 1980. Elections are held every five years and the President is the Head of State

National Planning Entity The NPE falls under the Economic Planning and Modelling Department in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion. It is headed by a director with two deputy directors responsible for Economic Planning and Modelling respectively. The NPE coordinates the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the national and provincial economic development plans. It also monitors and evaluates the implementation of National Development Strategies as well as co-ordinate the development of a credible macro-economic framework. The NPE also undertakes economic research and produces sectoral papers on contemporary policy issues. It also participates in regional, continental economic activities, as well as participate in population and migration development issues. Learn More >>

Approved by the Council of Ministers in 2015 as part of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2015 to 2020), it serves as a forum for strengthening regional-national linkages.
