About SADC National Planning Entities (NPEs) The SADC National Planning Entities (NPEs) Platform is a SADC body bringing together National Planning Commissions (NPCs) and Development Planning Ministries in Southern Africa. SADC NPEs Platform was approved by the Council of Ministers in 2015 as part of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2015 to 2020) as a forum for strengthening regional-national linkages. The Platform seeks to strengthen cooperation and peer learning as a way of enhancing harmony between the RISDP and the national development plans of SADC Member States, as well as facilitate harmonisation of national planning frameworks with the regional integration priorities. A Community of Practice (CoP) comprising National Planning Commissions and Development Planning Ministries in Southern Africa was established on the sidelines of a meeting of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) held from 28th to 29th January 2020 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The meeting was jointly organized by SADC and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) Sub Regional Office for Southern Africa (SRO-SA). The CoP, co-Chaired by Malawi and Zambia, worked as a “loose arrangement” with the goal of building strong, effective, credible and influential national planning entities, and to promote coherence and consistency in decision-making on matters related to development of the SADC region.
